How to Impress Your Interviewer

Written by: Cody Maxwell

Getting asked to be involved in an interview is a difficult process. You must find the right people to reach out to, prepare your resume, and present yourself in a formal way. But what is even harder to do is receive an offer after you go through the interview process. Studies show that majority of hires come based off how the interviewee conducted themselves through the interview process, rather than what is on their resume. I’m putting together this post to give a few tips on how to impress the interviewers.

Pre-Interview

  • Be timely on follow ups to emails

  • Research your company its history

  • Research the occupational duties that you will need to complete

  • Come up with questions to ask the interviewers

Interview

  • Come dressed for success

  • Use the S.T.A.R. Principle when answering questions

    • The S.T.A.R. Principle is a routine that you should use to answer a question in full detail. It stands for Situation, Task, Action, and Result. If you can incorporate each one of these in your responses, interviewers will have a clear image of your answers.

  • Be confident

  • Ask intelligent questions

Post Interview

  • Send a post interview email thanking everyone for their time and efforts
